FIGURE SCULPTURE

Description: This intensive workshop will focus on creating a figure in a dynamic pose. Students will work directly from a live model six hours per day to create a 1/3 scale figure in plastilina over an aluminum wire armature. Emphasis will be placed upon the systematic study of proportions, basic anatomy, composition, and gesture. This course is also designed to give students a greater understanding and appreciation for the variety of sculptural practices that employ the human form. Evening lectures, demonstrations, and open studio hours are all included. On July 9 at 7 PM there will be an orientation, a group meeting to get acquainted and a discussion on armature construction. From Monday, July 10 to Saturday, July 15 class will run from 9 AM to 4 PM with evening discussions and demonstrations after dinner. On the final night, there will be a group dinner and bonfire. Each day will be a full experience from morning to night!

In addition, students will have the unique opportunity to observe Brian’s studio process, from clay to bronze, access his art book library and purchase plaster casts from his collection.

This course will have a maximum of 10 students to enable greater individual instruction. Meals are not included in the course fees.

Location and Accommodations: This course includes shared accommodations in a large house next to the studio. Check-in is at 3 PM on Sunday, July 9. Check-out is on Sunday, July 16 by 11 AM.
