This workshop takes place in one of the personal studios of Brian Booth Craig. Students will be surrounded by works of art in progress in the various studios, so students will have the unique opportunity to observe his process, from clay to bronze. Description: This is an intensive six-day course on the techniques and traditions of figure sculpture. Emphasis will be placed upon the systematic study of proportions, basic anatomy, composition, and gesture. This course is also designed to give students a greater understanding and appreciation for the variety of sculptural practices that employ the human form. In addition to modeling the figure from life, this course will include lectures, presentations, discussions, and demonstrations. In this workshop, students will work directly from a model to create a 1/3 scale figure in plastiline over an aluminum armature. This course will entail a total of six studio days with a live model, six hours per day, plus evening lectures, demos and open studio hours. Space is limited!
•36 Hours Sculpting Workshop
•Aluminum wire armature
•6 Hours of sculpting from life per day, 9 AM to 4 PM
•Evening lectures on the history and traditions of figure sculpture and an artist talk from Brian
•Evening demonstrations on sculpting the hand, feet, head and facial features
•Evening open studio until 11 PM
•Private transportation to and from class each day for participants who stay within a 10-mile radius of the Studio
•Use of studio sculpture tools (Sculpture tools may also be purchased from Brian Booth Craig Studios)
OPTIONAL 5-DAY MOLD-MAKING WORKSHOP: Those who wish to make molds of their pieces may sign up for this Workshop that immediately follows the Figure Sculpture workshop. The additional fee is $1100. It will run from Nov 18 to Nov 22. For detailed information click this button.
Alternatively, OPTIONAL MOLD-MAKING SERVICE: Students may pay to have a mold created of their clay figure sculpture and shipped home. Brian Booth Craig Studios will make a brush-on silicone rubber mold with a urethane jacket for $1800 (not including shipping). Molds will take two to three weeks to deliver.
*Participants who do not select either mold-making option are responsible for transporting their clay sculptures home.
